FOUNDATION HISTORY

“Rise up and let your light shine forth!”(Isaiah 60:1)
“Following Christ’s example of Love, to bring the Light of Life”
Love & Devotion are at the Heart of Siloam.

The Siloam Eye Hospital in 1986 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Christianity’s advent into Korea.

The late Pastor Kyung-Chik Han was touched by the work of Rev. Sun-Tae Kim at the Mission for the Blind department of the Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK), and came to believe in the importance of founding a medical missionary hospital devoted to helping the blind and visually impaired living in Korea. Working together with many church leaders, Rev. Han was able to establish the Siloam Eye Hospital in 1986 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Christianity’s advent into Korea. Rev. Kyung-Chik Han was appointed its first board chairman to ensure the hospital followed Christ’s example of healing and love on its path of becoming a highly-respected and fully-certified medical institution.

Our work of medical missions began in earnest with a generous donation from Samsung Corporation, which allowed us to convert a 46-passenger limousine bus into a fully operational eye treatment center and operating room. The Siloam Mobile Eye Hospital was thus born—opening a new chapter in our medical outreach—as a team of doctors and specialists have been sent out on weekly medical mission trips to administer free treatment, blindness prevention, and eyesight recovery operations to those living in the rural areas and remote islands of Korea to assist those who do not have access or means to proper eye care.

From our earliest days, in the spirit of Christ’s love we have made it our mission our to reach out to our underprivileged brothers and sisters suffering in developing countries beyond Korea.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served,
but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

(Mark 10:45)
